Hi. I’m Cindy.
Welcome to my newsletter. I am a climate change scientist and educator, a meteorologist, a writer, and art and travel enthusiast.
I discovered a passion for travel at the age of 19, when a friend and I shipped our bicycles across the Atlantic to cycle around Ireland. I was fascinated by new landscapes and ever-evolving weather. That is when I become a meteorologist. In 2015, I lived in the Ecuadorian Andes and found a whole new perspective on the role that weather and climate plays in our lives. I’ve learned this much: travel opens you up and lets you see the world and yourself through new eyes. I love sharing this experience and my love of planet earth with students.
We are on the midst of some challenging times on this planet, with human activity driving increasing temperatures, wide-scale landscape changes, and biodiversity collapse. The infrastructure of modern civilization has changed how we relate to each other as humans, and has led to political division, rising authoritarianism, populism, violence and oppression. All of these things are related to our disconnection with nature, with global ecology (of which we are an integral part), and with each other.
In my writing, I explore the intersections of these things and the central question of what it means to live an authentic, purpose-driven life in the midst of these global challenges. I call this the art of living in a time of mass extinction. I share my thoughts and insights on travel, climate change, and what it means to be human in the midst of all that is happening.
I hope you will join the conversation.
